House in Berceni

A project made in 2005 for a young couple that has granted us planning freedom to an unusual degree. The house is set in Berceni, Ilfov County, very close to Bucharest. At the time, Acub Proiect’s team included architects Andrei & Anamaria Gheorghiu, Gabi Gheorghevici and Veronica Răileanu.

Having a groundfloor of 190sqm and a total area of 540sqm, the house may be considered generous for a family of two youngsters, although none of the interiors qualify as oversized. By the contrary. It’s interior spaces mere qualify as decent when it comes to size. We set out to create an open space flowing throughout the house, and we soon realized we needed to dematerialize the core of the house. So there was light flowing through the glass stairs and translucent hallway floors. The groundfloor is made up of daytime spaces opened towards the backyard pool and a guests area, whilst the first floor hosts the sleeping quarters. An office space fills-up the second, smaller floor. The house makes efficient use of solar pannels and qualifies as intelligent/green architecture.
